Dr. Shelby Hayden, DVM, MS, DACT

Owner

Dr. Shelby Hayden is a board certified reproductive specialist (Diplomate of the American College of Theriogenologists). She grew up in Valley Falls, KS where she spent much of her early childhood riding horses on her family’s farm. Shelby completed her pre-veterinary studies at Fort Hays State University and received her DVM from Kansas State University in 2002. Following veterinary school, she completed a Rotating Large Animal Medicine and Surgery Internship at the University of Tennessee followed by a four-year appointment as a Clinical Instructor for its Equine Field Services. Shelby then completed a residency specializing in Equine Theriogenology and received a Master of Science degree in Biomedical Sciences from Texas A&M University. Following her residency training, she worked as a Clinical Assistant Professor in Theriogenology at Oklahoma State University for several years. Shelby was then offered the opportunity to return to northeast Kansas by joining Heartland Equine Hospital (HEH) in 2014.  After three breeding seasons with HEH, a dedicated reproductive center was needed to keep pace with the growth and interest in equine reproduction.  As a result, KsCER was established to meet this growing need.

Shelby enjoys all aspects of equine reproduction especially breeding management and semen processing to improve the fertility of subfertile mares and stallions. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, their (growing number of) animals, and watching or participating in sports activities (especially football and basketball).
